SYF practises:
1st April, Friday -> 1pm to 6pm
Assemble @ the running track of Hougang Stadium right after the Sport's Day. Miss Cindy Chia will be making announcement so please listen out for it. There will be School bus to fetch us back to school(only for Band members) and lunch is provided too.

2nd April, Saturday -> 8am to 11am
May start to collect your Band Uniform from Jerin

4th April, Monday -> 3.30pm to 6.30pm
Newly selected CCA Day. Collect Your Band Uniform

6th April, Wednesday -> SYF DAY
Report to school as usual, after your recess report to the Band Room.
-> Upper and Lower Sec have different recess slot thus reporting time will be different.
Change into your Band Uniform too. Remember not to eat food that will upset your stomach! Dismissal Time for those who are not staying for the release of result is 4.30pm. Dismissal Time for those who are staying for the release of the result is 6.30pm.
For both slot, there will be school bus to fetch you back to school.

Yo Bandits,

For the Junior Bandits,
So how do you think of your performance today?
Like what Syazalli have said, it was bad. From where we were sitting, the whole band sounded so soft and there are too much mistakes made! I thought you all have already memorise the piece Penguin on Parade? Then, why are some of you STILL not looking at Ms Ten? Crest of Nobility was quite well done HOWEVER there are still rooms for improvement. Deyi Junior Band only practiced for 2 months and did you hear their playing? It was better then ours.Ask yourself how long you have been practicing? Do you know what are we trying tell you all? DISCIPLINE, the secret to the playing of good music. For those who still don't get what I mean let me give you some examples.
Firstly, during Band practices/Sectional DO NOT SLACK. Don't always rely on your seniors to teach you, they are going to graduate and leave band sooner or later.
Secondly, Keep quiet when Ms Ten is talking during practices. How can you talking to your friends and listen to Ms Ten at the same time.Even if you can, you are not respecting her!
Thirdly, Attendance, Pls attend Band practices on every Wed and Fri. If your are sick pls let you seniors know and produce a parent letter or MC the next Band practice.

I know you all are old enough to understand the term 'Discipline'. Im sure having Discipline in Band will be a great help for us to achieve good results for next year SYF. Don't you all want to clinch a better award after 3 years of Bronze award? Why not let us work hard together and achieve it?!?!
For the next two practices, pls work hard for the Junior Band Concert and at the same time remember what the four seniors have said!

Im here to tell you all that there will be a new consent form for the Junior Band Festival Actual day.As the ending time have been changed. Pls be reminded that you have to meet Joey Wong and Syazalli @the Band Room.Do your sectional while waiting.

Tampines Junior College Symphonic Winds Is having a concert at Victoria Concert Hall This event is happening on the 26th May 2010 at 7.30pm. Each ticket cost $10. They Will be playing Blue Sky & Sunshine, Carmen Fantasy, Hymn to the sun, Amazing Grace, Autumn Soliloquy(oboe and band), Ave Maria(Alto solo) & Impression Of Japan.

pls be reminded that there is a photo shooting session.If you have any remedial, pls kindly tell your teacher to excuse you for about 10 mins. Pls eat your lunch and assemble at the Band Room at 1pm sharp and get ready by 2.30pm sharp.
For Girls, remember to bring court shoe, stockings and clip up your hair.(If you happen to injured yourself on the leg[touch wood] before the photo shoot, put a plaster and then wear your stocking.Don't say that your leg is bleeding[touch wood] and u cannot wear!)
For Boys, remember to bring black socks(must be 3-5cm above ankle), court shoe.
Pls do bring your badge if you have any. Those members who didn't return your uniform, pls BRING TOMORROW!

hi. enjoying your break? well, just to inform you. please be reminded to bring your Band Uniform back to band on the 21st of DEC. And it starts from 7.30 am to 12 noon. Another thing to take note of would be the registration date which is on the 23rd. Wednesday. we shall do our best to get more members!! With that, the songs that you will need to practice will be:

HEY BAND,

SYF 2009 is finally over. can breathe normally now. hahas. anyway, do not have any regrets. You know you had done your best and gotten a bronze medal. we being a young and small band, with majority of us inexperience.
To some of your, Bronze may not be satisfying, but still, we had done our best already.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, it is the learning experience we gone through.
The memories we went through together as a band. the sufferings, the tiredness, the enjoyments, the punishments, the joys, the jokes, the excitement, the nervousness, etc....

SEC 1s and SEC 2s, continue to work hard ! Do not slack in your playing. Continue to practice regularly and maintain your standard.In year 2011, 2 years from now, it will be your turn to be in me and my fellow graduating bandits' shoe.

Hi Band, the day is coming !! 3 more days !

anyway, i think the problem most of us facing now should be performing anxiety *nervousness, feeling intimidated by other big bands, etc..

use this : Mental visualization

First,You sit down, maybe before you practice or when you have a little extra time, and close your eyes. Imagine yourself at the performance. Imagine every detail: what you will wear, what the audience looks like, your accompanist, etc. Now, begin your performance. Hear and see yourself play each note perfectly. Feel each breath you take, your instrument, the music as you turn the page. When you are done, smile out over the audience. Hear their applause, their complements to you in the lobby, other musicians back stage congratulating you on your performance. Do this many times before the actual concert, and you will find it much easier to perform.
Believe in yourself ! Follow your section motto !

For the past and today's Band Practice, Ms Ten gone through a lot of things with us, DO NOT FORGET THOSE !!! NOTE IT DOWN ON YOUR SCORE, IT IS OKAY TO BE VERY DIRTY WITH WORDS. TRY YOUR BEST TO PLAY WHAT IS REQUIRED !

Dear fellow Punggol bandits,

It's the time of the year again where the stress level hits a peak and tension rises. I know that most of you are giving this SYF Central Judging Competition your very best, putting in a lot of time and effort to practise on your instruments and attend band practices. For those of you who have grown so much in terms of character and musical skills, I'm proud of you guys. For those of you who are still young and inexperience, do take this stressful period as a learning journey and not give up halfway (though it's really so easy to just give up trying hard).

Whilst THE DAY is drawing nearer, I strongly urge all of you to take good care of yourselves by drinking loads of water and having sufficient rest. Look forward to seeing you guys at band practice again when school reopens on Monday :)

Hi Band!
SYF is approaching REAL SOON !! REAL REAL SOON !
we are left with only approx. 36 DAYS, if we assume SYF is on the 30th March .

36 DAYS !!!
Less than 20 PRACTICES with MS TEN !!

Band, do you see the urgency and the intensity? We are still making a lot of mistakes here and there. I am sure all of us can make it if we persevere and commit our time. Cherish your sectional time ! Make full use of it. Commit yourself to come for every single practice/sectionals. If you miss out one, you may miss out a lot of important things that have to be noted. We can surely do it right, Band ? Band is not only about you. It is the sound as one! 'one band, one sound'.

After yesterday's practice, everyone should have seen that we have improved. However, we have still quite a long way to go. The upcoming exchange is on 21st Feb? So we are ONLY left with NINE days to play to Ms Ten's expectations. See the urgency.

Well, all you gotta do is this. One, remember how Ms Ten wants us to play and what she has asked us to note down. That's why you gotta bring your pencil. Two is of course, improve on your sound. And three, take every opportunity to practice especially during sectionals. Take full advantage of sectionals, practicing small things can make a big difference. Come earlier for every band practice, like this, you can already be practicing your longs notes etc. by the time band commences.

Sorry Bandits. had not posted for a long long long time. shall post about the Band Camp.

Band Camp 2009 - held on 26th to 28th Nov, a 3DAY2NIGHT camp.
DAY 1
Gathered at 7.30am and headed for morning PT. Had some games after that and it does makes us enjoy ourselves. Followed by drillings and lunch. WASHING OF INSTRUMENTS and SPRING CLEANING. im very sure everyone was super tired after cleaning the storerooms and the instruments. hahas. Dinnered and Band Practice. Worked on some pieces for Orientation and SYF set piece. Had supper and Lights off. Off to Bed !!

Day 2
Woke up at 6plus. washed up and assemble for morning PT. after that, we departed to SENTOSA for our outing. Played some games and pinic there. Can see that members are really tired after playing and running like mad people under the hot sun. Walked back to the bus and departed back to school. Had Band Practice and Dinner. After Dinner, had Band Practice again. Supper and watched movie - Swing Girls. Quite a nice movie about a group of girls and a guy forming a band. Lights off and sleeping bag time.

Day 3
Woke up, washed up, packed up, Breakfast and Sectionals. Followed by some Drillings with Instruments. After that, had debriefing and photo-taking session. HOME SWEET HOME @ 1PM !

This camp, as said by the teachers, were a great success. Firstly, without your, the always cooperative members, it will not be successful. Secondly, the behind-the-band organising committees. On behalf of the teachers, WELL DONE BANDITS !!

Okay Band. i think that there are some announcements by MRS OWYONG in the tagboard. I will post it up here for her.

Firstly, we are given a new notice board in replacement of the old one which is locked in the netball cage. Our new notice board should be at the old hockey's notice board which i think is beside the bookshop.

Secondly, all secondary 4s and 5s who are going to step down with effect from this week, there will be a proper handling over ceremony in due date.

Thirdly, ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE YET TO PAY UP FOR THE TICKETS, PLEASE PAY UP ASAP AS MRS OWYONG NEEDS THE MONEY URGENTLY.

Dear BANDITS !!

WELL DONE ON THE PERFORMANCE ! We had put up a very very, wonderful concert. All our hard work had been paid off. I believe your had done your best in the performance. MdmLEE told us we IMPROVED on our playings compared to the previous concert 2 years ago. All of us done our part and we played well, except for some mistakes here and there. A chance for graduating batch to perform before stepping down. A whole new experience for the Sec 1s. Continue to work hard and play hard.

To the Sec 1s, its a new experience to many of you and i am sure that your had done your best. Your had been in Band for barely 6months and you are performing in a Concert. Wonderful ! WELL DONE !

Seniors and graduating batch, on behalf of PUNGGOL BAND, thanks for the guidance and advices your had given us. Your tolerance toward the juniors and everything your had done for us. All the best for your O' Levels.

Alright! the band camp days are over & i hoped each and everyone of you had enjoyed yourselves despite the fact that we are very very tired from those PT[s] and drillings.

On this coming monday, 2th June
Our 3DAY 2NIGHT BAND CAMP. At 7.20am SHARP ! PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. You are required to report in PE attire or Band Tees. Girls, please bring proper attire and no revealing shirts. Boys, you can wear three quarters or shorts if u want to. But also not to extravagant. We are going to a camp not a fashion parade ! REMEMBER IT.

To add in your list of things to bring.
Sleeping Bags are a must as u will be sleeping in the class and it can get real cold in the night. You don't want to be freezing in the middle of the night, do you?
You can also bring Jackets/Windbreaker if you feel you will get real cold in the night
Also include in Mugs/Cups for your supper. Unless you don't want your hot milo before you go to bed. A drink before bed makes you sleep better ~
Next Rags, Non-scratching Cloth. We will be doing some spring-cleaning during the camp and therefore remember to bring some rags. Those without rags are welcomed to use your clothes to clean.
Recommended to bring some Plastic Bags for your soiled clothings. Surely you don't wish to stink your whole bag.
And lastly, your own personal medication if you need it.

And also don't bring any electronic devices such as mp3 players, psp. Except hand phones for contacting your parents. And you are advice to bring your own breakfast too. 1.5litres water bottle minimum requirement.

Didn't make any announcements yesterday. because, the juniors went home early, and seniors were rushing because of school closing. So, shall say it here.

From next week onwards, There will be no more band practice because study break for MYE is here.

I believe that most of you have brought home your instruments so, PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE!!!! we do not want our quarter master/mistress to be handing misproper care of instruments when band resume.

And some of you must be lazy and will not practice. i hereby to say,
PLEASE/MUST PRACTICE!!!!! We will be having a very very tight schedule when band resume from MYE. we have to practice real hard for the upcoming concert we going to have in June. though some of you might be thinking there are still time.. still got 2more months. let me tell you, it's going to be short. and each and everyone of you have to do your part by practising at home.

hence, it is a MUST to practice.
We won't want the perfomance to be a flop right? so, let's JIAYOU!!! okay??

However, DO NOT neglect your studies because of practising. remember to study hard okay! do well for MYE. anyone got problems, can try to look for the seniors in band. i'm sure they will be most willing to help. :)

people who are sick...
drink plenty of water & get plenty of rest. don't wander around singapore during the weekends. if you're too bored, read your textbooks. don't leave your house!!! unless you're going to the doctor.

lastly, today @ FEP. there's a band performance at 3pm. some of our band members are performing as well. maybe to those that are free would like to go and see?

we will be performing for the upper sec pupils in the hall during their assembly period.
Please leave your classroom at 12pm for recess and by 12.20pm be in the music room latest, 12.25pm. we'll then change to our full uniform and the majors will be doing some spot checks.

Do remember, they were the ones who organise, camps, games, and other events. and also in charge of our behaviours. They had did a good job over the years and this is the time whereby they are being recognized in front of the whole school. To show your gratitude to them, cheering would be the most wonderful thing for them.

Don't be shy, as a band, we face everything together. when someone have a problem, we will solve it together too. so cheer on!!!

To the sec 1s, from tomorrow's[29feb'08] practice onwards, every wednesday and friday, band practice will end at 5.30pm. do inform your parents. so that, your parents won't be worried for you.

AND

to those that have brought back your instrument, please bring it back tomorrow and look for quater master/mistress to get it sign in. if it's not signed in and the quater master/mistress cannot find that particular instrument, we'll hold you responsible for the missing instrument. due to the serial number comes along with your name that had been recorded in the book.

In case anyone forget the Rules & Regulations of PUNGGOL Band. It shall be posted up here.

#1 - RESPECT!!!!! be it to teachers, seniors or other bandmates.
#2 - STRICTLY NO vulgarities. whoever is caught, 50cents/ letter. eg. f*** = $2 shall be donated to the band fund. =D
#3 - NO jeering!
#4 - Care & concern for one another.
#5 - Only language - ENGLISH!
#6 - Knocking of instrument per time - 50cents. [goes into Band fund]
- dropping of mouthpiece - $1. [goes into Band fund]
#7 - Don't be late for band practice! per min - 1frog jump.
10 mins - 1lap of frog jump across the music/band room.
#8 - Phones to be kept in the box until end of Band practice, you then can take it back.

What you have to do!

- take good care of your instrument. BE RESPONSIBLE!
- maintain discipline in BAND.
- make sure ur attendance is not falling.

*Lastly, anyone in band that have any problem, don't be shy/afraid to share.

you can either find any of the CMs or someone[preferably, seniors] you REALLY trust in Band to share your problems. they will help you.

Please do this on every Band Practice and on your own free time.

- 1minute of LONG TONES
- 2 minutes of OCTAVE SLURS
- 5 minutes SCALES (including various dynamics & articulations)
- 5 minutes SIDE-READING
- 12 minutes BAND METHOD MUSIC, ASSIGNMENT
- 5 minutes ACTIVE LISTENING TO RECORDINGS
Total = 30minutes

& when you are doing the activites, make you have GOOD POSTURE, FULL CONTROL of BREATHING , CONCENTRATION.

& also remember to do the BREATHING EXERCISE when practicing.

School have reopen for some time already. How's school life? adapting to it pretty well?

Anyway, here to write the band practice days and time. because some confusion might be going on here and there due to the change in our time table this year.

Band Practices will be on,

Monday - 3pm to 4pm. [individual practice] SLs are allowed to ask your section members to stay back for sectionals. but is after the individual practice.

Wednesday - 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Friday - 1pm to 5.30pm.

Lastly, don't be late! Punishments will still be carry out.

the band blog seems so dead. here to update!

BAND, dont just browse through it.IF U REALLY LIKE OUR BAND AND WANT TO IMPROVE THE BAND!read it with all your heart,your mind and your soul. after reading, do some soul-searching and get the answers to the questions being asked upon.

how do u think about our band?this year's sec 1 are soon going to be senior,are u all ready to lead the new group of juniors coming in?dont u feel disgrace that some other school members whom are younger then u can play better? majors and seniors have been reminding u all how to improve the band but did u all take it in your heart?

we know that how's our band attitude was like. and how it is like, now. dont u all want to change for the better?or u all want to disgrace yourselves further? be it the next music exchange/concert.
have u all ever imagine that our band can turn into 80 members? like most of the schools are having? just compare schools in the north east side.or we can perform at the public with the crowd's loud applause.i believe that most of u have imagined about that or even dreamt about it.

let me tell you, there are two kinds of person in the world.(sleep and keep on dreaming) and (wake up and chase after the dream) which would u choose?

this is not lecturing for u people's information. but it's to get ur mind going. so, no offense about it. there will not have any more discipline talks in the band's blog. [unless, there is a need to] because this will just bring down the band's reputation.

one sentence-if you are disciplined, there is no need for punishments. because, discipline don't mean punishment. the committees are given a list of definition about discipline. and we are certain that ANY/WHATEVER of the reasons that the band made the committees headache are all in the list.

let me list the discipline list out. =)

-discipline is how you take pride in quiet rehearsal.
-discipline is how you march into the stadium.
-discipline is being early, not on time.
-discipline is how you enter the band room.
-discipline is how you come prepared to rehearsal.
-discipline is being a focus, musical player.
-discipline is being a focus, graceful dancer.
-discipline is understanding that there is a time to work and a time to play.
-discipline is taking pride in perfecting the little details.
-discipline is choosing to be a person of character.
-discipline is NOT push up, yelling. is called discord and strife.
-discipline is NOT punishment.
-discipline leads to compliment.
-discipline leads to success.
-discipline leads to a tradition.
-discipline leads to sanity.
-discipline leads to togetherness.
-discipline leads to oneness.
-dicipline defines who you are and what you are about.

and lastly, if you are diciplined. there is no need for punishment.

p.s remember, is either you want you;yourself to be discipline or not to be.

band. look at this seriously. what's the point of having the committees thinking through so much just for you people? you people, are you changing your attitude? what for having so much fun, and you are not contributing? WHAT'S THE POINT? CAN SOMEONE JUST BLOODY HELL TELL ME ABOUT IT!?

we just want you to change ur attitude. is it that difficult? can you people just treat people nicely? even to strangers? if you can't, then what makes u so sure that you can survive in the economy next time?? of all the lecturing, all the talking, all the punishments you all had received, you all just think that it's just a useless speech/act right? what's the point of having such nice blog. such nice friendster account etc. but with a bunch of terrible people inside?
