Hi Band!
SYF is approaching REAL SOON !! REAL REAL SOON !
we are left with only approx. 36 DAYS, if we assume SYF is on the 30th March .

36 DAYS !!!
Less than 20 PRACTICES with MS TEN !!

Band, do you see the urgency and the intensity? We are still making a lot of mistakes here and there. I am sure all of us can make it if we persevere and commit our time. Cherish your sectional time ! Make full use of it. Commit yourself to come for every single practice/sectionals. If you miss out one, you may miss out a lot of important things that have to be noted. We can surely do it right, Band ? Band is not only about you. It is the sound as one! 'one band, one sound'.

Anyway, the Syf theme this year is
.
“Youth Signatures”

The theme ‘Youth Signatures’ embodies our youths’ desire for self-expression. Energetic and full of enthusiasm, our youths are constantly seeking opportunities to showcase their multifarious talents as they strive to work towards a better tomorrow.
The SYF has always been a platform that has enabled and celebrated the talents and vibrancy of our youths. Through their many signature performances, they embark on a journey of self-discovery and improvement, leaving a positive mark on those around them.

adapted from singaporeyouthfestival.sg

AND, the Judging Criteria for SYF 2009 are as follows:
.
50% - Technique
Articulation
Dynamics
Intonation
Rhythm
Tone
.
50% - Musicianship
Balance/Blend
Expression
Interpretation
Phrasing
Style
.
The awards are credited as below:
• Gold Above 80%
• Silver 70% to 79%
• Bronze 60% to 69%
Certificate of Participation 59% and below
.
To recognise the outstanding achievement of concert bands that have attained high performance standards, schools that obtain a final mark of 85% or more will receive the Gold award (with Honours).
.
.
Band, i think your should be matured enough to understand what i was trying to convey. Let's work hard together as a BAND ! comeon, the last lap towards SYF!
our continued determination and effort will definitely pay off !!
.
gerald.

After yesterday's practice, everyone should have seen that we have improved. However, we have still quite a long way to go. The upcoming exchange is on 21st Feb? So we are ONLY left with NINE days to play to Ms Ten's expectations. See the urgency.

Well, all you gotta do is this. One, remember how Ms Ten wants us to play and what she has asked us to note down. That's why you gotta bring your pencil. Two is of course, improve on your sound. And three, take every opportunity to practice especially during sectionals. Take full advantage of sectionals, practicing small things can make a big difference. Come earlier for every band practice, like this, you can already be practicing your longs notes etc. by the time band commences.

Hey Members,
don't let those chicken heart spammers pollute our mind. They are just jealous of what we are capable of doing, and they can't do that. We will not be affected by these nonsensical comments made by those naive dimwit.
Just concentrate on our SYF. It is the process that we are going through together as a band, punishments and scoldings, through thick and thin. No matter what the results are. REMEMBER THAT.

Anyway, just a note to the ingenuous spammers. what you said online is considered cyber-bullying and will be dealt with severely once the teachers or any of our band leaders found out who you are.

Gerald.

PUNGGOL SECONDARY CONCERT BAND, also known as PSSB, was established in 2001. Through the years, with the support from the School and Teachers, PSSB have managed to overcome challenges and achieved beyond boundaries.

The Band has been under our Resident Conductress, Ms Ten Rong Rong, since our founding days. Under her baton, the Band participated in her first ever SYF in the year 2005, attaining a Bronze Medal. Since then, PSSB has maintained her standard and earned her well deserved medals in both Year 2007 and 2009.

Being part of the Performing Arts Group, the Band has constantly been part of the school’s celebration. From CNY Concert to the Annual Speech Day, PSSB is always there to bring entertaining music to the crowd. Apart from that, the Band is also nicknamed as the heart-beat of Punggol Secondary’s Marching Contingents.

PSSB started its very own mini-concert last year, specially organized for the members’ parents for their continuous support for the Band. The Band also performed in her first joined concert at TPY HDB HUB in 2006. In 2008, the Band was also involved in the Performing Group Concert held at the NAFA.

Together with Ms Ten and the teachers, PSSB is confident that we can continue to strive and attain higher standards of musicianship and also the passion for music in years to come.
